Food Drive

Last year The Mayors’ Feed the Hungry
Food Drive yielded over 20 tons of food!
Again this year, volunteer members of the Mayors’ Feed the Hungry Program Committee, took on the task
of contacting area schools, businesses and civic organizations to participate in our annual holiday food drive.
Over thirty-five schools — from elementary to college, public
and private — as well as an assortment of area organizations, businesses
and government offices are participating this year.
“With hundreds of school students participating, area teachers
use the food drive as a real-life community service lesson teaching students
the value of sharing with those who are less fortunate,”.
Culminating in the afternoon on the Friday before Thanksgiving at Robarts Arena, 3000
Ringling Blvd., food items will be immediately sorted and distributed
to the member agencies of the Mayors’ Feed the Hungry Program Committee — ultimately
providing meals for the hungry in Sarasota and Manatee counties during
the upcoming holiday season. The public is invited to bring donations
between 1:00 and 4:00 pm to the Sarasota Fairgrounds, Robarts’ Arena parking lot located at 3000 Ringling Boulevard, Sarasota.
.
“The public is also invited to drop off non-perishable food items
at Harvest Tabernacle, 209 North Lime Street in Sarasota,” says
Joel Swallow, chairman of the Mayors’ Feed the Hungry Program Committee. “This
is an on-going drive that supplies the Free At Last Food Bank. All donations
are sincerely needed and greatly appreciated. Please continue to help
feed as many as you can.”
